Large crowds light up Drumnaph during Lantern Walk
On Thursday 30th October, Drumnaph Community Nature Reserve in Carntogher welcomed almost 600 people to their first ever Lantern Walk. The unusually mild and dry weather helped make the event a huge success and attract people of all ages from far and wide.
Groups of walkers were lead through the woodland by a number of warriors from the Fianna into the secret camp for the celebrations. Irelands leading fire performers – Firepoise delivered an exciting and dramatic fire show and this was followed by storytelling around the open fire.
The event was organised by Carntogher Community Association through their new arts programme kindly funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Magherafelt District Council. The Association would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came along to the event and showed their support. A big thank you must go to our hardworking and dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly making the unique woodland lanterns, setting up and helping during and after the event. Go raibh mile maith agat.
Following the success of the event the group are already making plans to ensure that the walk becomes an annual event and we can make it bigger and better. Our attentions will now turn to prepare for the first ever ‘Winter Woodland’ event on Sunday 14th December.
