Féile Dhrámaíochta Charn Tóchair / Carntogher Drama Festival 2014

Féile Dhrámaíochta Charn Tóchair 2014

2 Day Drama Festival comes to Carntogher

“An Coire” , Carntogher’s superb new theatre just a couple of miles outside Maghera  will be the venue for a 2 day Drama Festival/ Féile in the Irish language on 29th & 30th March.  The festival participants will all be vying for a place at the National Drama Festival organised by An Comhlachthas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta which this year will take place at Cúil Aodh, West Cork in May.  Indeed Mr Seán Ó Mórónaigh of An Comhlachthas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta is very much looking forward to the performances at “An Cóire.”

Indeed there is something for everyone: two brand new plays will be performed on Saturday night; “Caife Fé Thrí” from the students of U C Cork and   “Ar Thóir an Óir” written by Francie Cullen, one of a few playwrights writing in Irish at the moment.  This play is based on the American Goldrush and will be performed by actors from The Donegal Gaeltacht of Downings.

Excitement is in the air among the locals of South Derry in anticipation of the Carn Tóchair actors who are taking part on Sunday afternoon, with their production of the comedy “Cladhairí na gCleas.” This is a story from folklore which has been adapted by Seán Ó Móronaigh of “An Comhlachthas Náisiúnta Dramaíochta.”  Aisteoirí Gort a Chiorce will be performing their one man show on the life and works of the Irish language author Seosamh Mac Grianna and two troupes from Co.Tyrone  Aisteoirí na Gopaleen from Strabane and the Omagh actors will be also be taking part in the competition.

Whether you are líofa, have a cúpla focal or even simply have an interest in drama and would like to experience a taste of the Irish language this weekend provides a perfect opportunity.

Official opening at 7.15 by Deaglán Ó Doibhlín, Irish language officer with Magherafelt District Council

Performances start on Sunday at 2.00pm with the results of the competition at 5.30.  For more information contact Helena @ An Carn 028 79549978  or
