Stone of Strength – lifting the Seefin Stone

David Keohan will visit us during Féile Charn Tóchair to lift the Seefin Stone. Over the past few years, David has managed to research, find and reanimate a lost culture of strength in Ireland.  Namely the culture of stone lifting.

These “clocha nirt” or stones of strength were a part of the social fabric of the nation for centuries. Lifted at funeral games, wedding ceremonies, harvest festivals , pattern days and at crossroads. To honour the changing of the seasons, the old Gods and the new. For social status, as rites of passage to adulthood and as legendary feats of strength.

It is his honour to reanimate these wonderful customs, stories and mythologies. And through the lifting of these great stones, we are connecting to our past in a real tangible, physical way. Testing ourselves like our ancestors did.
