
Feis Charn Tóchair 2023
A celebration of the culture and revival of the Irish language in Co. Derry.
Feis Charn Tóchair is a family friendly event and is one of the highlights of the Irish speaking community’s annual events. The Feis show cases the talent and level of Irish of the youth in the Carntogher and wider community. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to see and hear their children speak Irish and see the Irish speaking community of which they are apart of.
There are a wide range of competitions suitable for all levels including Naíscoil, Bunscoil / Gaelscoil, English medium Primary, Irish and English medium Secondary level.
Competitions include Poetry Recital, Conversation, Scholarship Award, Fáinne, Art, Writing, Traditional Singing and Traditional Music competitions.
The Feis will take place on Saturday 29th April 2023
However all entries to the Feis must be submitted by Monday 20th March
This is to allow time for the timetable for the day of the Feis to be drawn up.
The Feis timetable will be emailed to all entrants. Hard copies will also be available for collection upon request.

There is no charge to enter the writing competition Write a short story of 500 words or less in Irish. At primary level, stories may be handwritten. At secondary level, stories must be printed with double line spacing. Deadline: Primary level: Wednesday 19th April Secondary level: Wednesday 19th April Theme: Open choice The short stories will be assessed on the following criteria: Primary Level: Originality Charachter Plot Development Style / Art Secondary Level: Originality Style Carachter Plot development Accuracy & Richness of Irish* *This will only apply to Keystage 5
Only one poem per pupil may be entered to this section. Theme: Open choice. It is essential all poems are in Irish. At primary level: Poems may be handwritten. Each poem must have at least three verses. At secondary level: The poems must be typed with double spacing between the lines. Poems must have at least four verses. Deadline for entries: Primary level: Wednesday 19th April Secondary level: Wednesday 19th April
Participants for Scholarship Competition must also take part in another competition, either Poetry Recital or a Music .
Cúpla Focal (A few words) Children in Bunscoil / Gaelscoil in Rang 6 or below are not eligible to enter the Gold Fáinne Competition.
Silver Fáinne Children in Bunscoil / Gaelscoil in Rang 6 or below are not eligible to enter the Gold Fáinne Competition.
