Funding secured for Drumnaph Health & Well Being Project
Drumnaph Community Health & Wellbeing Project will involve the delivery of a programme designed to get people outside to enjoy the outdoors while improving their health. Participation is at the heart of everything the group delivers and this project will reflect this. The project will cover a range of areas including physical fitness, mental wellbeing, skills development and healthy lifestyle. The series of programmes will be delivered at Drumnaph Nature Reserve and will not only encourage the community to spend more leisure time outdoors but also to appreciate the countless benefits in the natural world. Drumnaph Nature Reserve offers a unique opportunity to experience a community owned outdoor space that offers 210 acres of ancient woodland, boglands, meadows, traditional farm and 7km of walkways within a rural community.
The project will include a wide variety of programmes targeting a number of key areas:
Couch to 5K, 5k to 10K, Early morning wild bootcamp, Flexibility and mobility and 10week Community Health Challenge to tackle physical fitness, healthy lifestyle and emotional health.
A Green Gym Initiative will be delivered involving Direct conservation days (including Coppicing, hedge laying and stone wall building), workshops on Introduction to Gardening, Herbal remedies and outdoor cooking will improve skills and encourage a healthy lifestyle for participants. For additional emotional health and wellbeing support the project will also offer outdoor yoga and the SEED (Self Esteem and Emotional Discovery) programme which focuses on improving the mental wellbeing of participants.
Funding has been secured from the Big Lottery - Awards for All grant.
